The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 20 June 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, Amb. Dare Bejide, has condemned the current administration’s neglect of agriculture, infrastructure, and other essential social amenities in the state.

While noting that investing in these areas will engender growth and development, he promised that his government would prioritise people-oriented policies and programmes that will positively impact the lives of the people of the state.

The former Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada made the remarks in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, during a media parley with newsmen, where he also felicitated residents for witnessing another year.

While maintaining that he has what it takes to unseat the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bejide solicited the support of the people to secure victory at the polls.

He pointed out that he is the best candidate among the contenders for the election, citing his extensive experience and deep understanding of the people as key advantages that set him apart.

“One on one, Oyebanji cannot withstand me. They know my integrity and that their government thrives on propaganda and corruption.”

He criticised the current administration for investing in “projects that benefit only a small fraction of the citizens, such as the overhead bridge” he described as a white elephant project that 90 percent of Ekiti people will not use.

He used the occasion to dismiss rumours making the rounds that he is being sponsored by the APC or Governor Oyebanji, describing such allegations as groundless and without basis.

“Oyebanji is my boy. I trained him. How then can I be sponsored by him? The ADC is stable; the APC and PDP are in disarray.” He added, “Ekiti people are tired of a government focused on enriching a few elites while neglecting the majority.”

Noting that his administration would be driven by transparency, service delivery, and comprehensive development, he stressed that true progress comes from investing in values, trust, and people, warning against leadership drift.

He highlighted the contradiction of Ekiti’s high literacy rate alongside rising unemployment and youth disillusionment as evidence of leadership failure.

He hinted at rehabilitating Ekiti through targeted infrastructure development, water, security, revitalisation of agriculture, and a total commitment to transparency and quality governance if elected.
