Middle Tennessee University head coach, Keith Vronman is optimistic Nigerian duo Alaba Akintola and Esther Isa will step up their performance when the outdoor season begins this weekend.
While applauding their performances at the just concluded NCAA Division 1Indoor Championship, Vronman said he is looking forward to a great outdoor season adding that both Akintola and Isa have put in a lot of hard work in the Indoor season.
Akintola in the 60 meter was unable to qualify after running a time of 6.61s giving him a 12th place finish, while Isa competed in the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.73m and a 16th place finish last Friday.
“Esther and Alaba competed against some of the best in the world and arguably the toughest NCAA championships to qualify.
“They have put in a lot of hard work this indoor season and we are looking forward to seeing what they can do outdoors,” Vronman said on MTU website.
Meanwhile, the outdoor season will begin this weekend, March 17-18 in Auburn, Alabama.
Last month, Isa was named Female Field Performer of the Meet for the third consecutive year. She became the second athlete to win this award three times, joining Rice’s Michelle Fokam.
Also Akintola shared in the honors after he set a new C-USA championship record in the 200-meter final with a time of 20.59s which ranks 10th overall in the NCAA. He also finished first in the 60 meter final where he ran a 6.67s to qualify for the NCAA championships.
