The wife of Nigeria’s president, Oluremi Tinubu has inaugurated a digital economy centre/e learning facilities at the Cross River State University in Calabar.
The centre is a product of a collaboration between the Nigerian Information and Technology Development Agency, NITDA and the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI.
The centre was donated to the university by the first lady who doubles as the national chairman of the RHI.
Speaking during the commissioning, Senator Oluremi Tinubu who was represented by the wife of the Senate President Ekaette Akpabio said the centre is a strategic step in setting a path for the Nigerian youths.
“The formal opening of this center marks a strategic step in setting the path for Nigerian youths to participate and thrive in the digital revolution.
“This center can unlock the potential that will enable the youths contribute meaningfully to academic growth and innovation in facing challenges.
“Technology has become a positive tool in our world shaping everything from communication to commerce to education and healthcare.
“As students, it is not easy to study without ICT that is why Her Excellence in collaboration with NITDA established this”, she said.
She added that the centre is a collaborative effort between the RHI and NITDA to provide access to technology for our youths.
She further stated that it further demonstrates the commitment of the present administration of President Bola Tinubu in ensuring access to opportunities across the country.
On her part, the wife of the Cross River State governor Rev. Eyoanwan otu thanked the wife of the president and NITDA for bringing the centre to Cross River State.
She said the centre marks a critical step forward in enhancing educational opportunities and technological advancements within our various states.
She emphasized that the centre will empower students, facilities and researchers with the requisite tools and resources to thrive in a digital age.
She also commended the first lady for offering scholarships to over 20 indigenes of the state saying and for her generosity saying she is not tired of doing good to humanity.
Engr. Adamu Sabo, an engineer with the Project Management Unit of NITDA said the centre state of the arts IT equipments.
These equipments he said includes high end computers, E- Learning resources, state of the arts E – Learning servers with quality educational content.
He added that the high quality E Learning journals within the centre will aid in research.
Also speaking, Professor Austin Angba, the Vice Chancellor of the University said the centre is an investment in the future of its students and will help them offer world class education.
He added that the centre will serve as a catalyst for research, innovation and enable the institution offer world class education.
