The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Yekini Idiaye, has charged the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Education, Washington Osifo, to prioritise the development of a robust, future-ready education system capable of equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Idiaye gave the charge when Osifo paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Benin City.
The Speaker commended Osifo for being the first public official to visit and congratulate him following his emergence as Speaker of the Eighth Edo State House of Assembly.
He assured the commissioner of the Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Education to strengthen the state’s education sector and drive meaningful reforms that would deliver lasting benefits to students and communities across Edo State.
Idiaye stressed the need for an education system that goes beyond classroom learning to prepare a new generation of innovative, skilled and responsible leaders capable of shaping the future, contributing meaningfully to society and bringing greater pride and prosperity to the state.
“We must build an education system that prepares our children not just for today, but for tomorrow. The House of Assembly will work with you to ensure that Edo students are equipped to compete globally and contribute meaningfully to the development of our state,” he said.
Earlier, Osifo commended the emergence of Idiaye as Speaker, noting that he possessed the leadership qualities, experience and tact required to steer the House in advancing the Edo SHINE agenda of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
He said the governor regarded the Speaker as a strategic and dependable ally in advancing the interests of the people of Edo State, particularly in transforming the education sector and improving learning outcomes across the state.
The commissioner stressed that developing Edo State could not be achieved through the efforts of the government alone, but required sustained collaboration among all arms of government and other stakeholders.
Osifo assured the Speaker of his commitment to justify the confidence reposed in him by the governor and to work diligently towards delivering meaningful reforms and sustainable development in the education sector.
“Edo shall always remain ahead in education under my watch,” Osifo promised.
