Senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has called on Nigerians, particularly adults in their 30s, 40s and 50s to stop limiting their political participation to social media commentary and instead actively engage in the political process.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Sani noted the irony of older citizens criticising elected officials online while many of those holding key positions, such as members of the House of Representatives, State Houses of Assembly and even Local Government Chairmen, are much younger.
He advised Nigerians to withdraw from endless commentaries on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, urging them to register as members of political parties and aspire to contest elections in order to provide the leadership they believe their communities deserve.

Sani also expressed concern over recent surveys suggesting that Nigerian youths are more active on social media than in mainstream politics, describing the trend as unhealthy for democratic development.
Addressing the fear of financial constraints, the former lawmaker encouraged prospective aspirants not to be discouraged by a perceived lack of money, stressing that many of today’s political leaders did not have smooth or wealthy beginnings.
According to him, political leadership is not reserved for a privileged few, adding that with courage, persistence and commitment, ordinary citizens can rise to positions of influence.
“If they can be there, so can you,” Sani said, urging Nigerians to transform their political opinions into concrete action.
