The Martins Lydia Foundation (MLF) has launched medical outreach for women in Ifelodun/Laduntan community, Ona Ara Local Government, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The outreach addressed critical gaps in women’s healthcare and promote reproductive health awareness among residents of the underserved community. Services provided included medical consultations, diagnostic screenings, and treatment of common illnesses, eye examinations, laboratory tests and personalised health counselling.

The initiative was conceived to improve access to quality healthcare for women while strengthening health education and psychosocial support systems at the grassroots level.

The outreach focused on preventive healthcare and early disease detection, with organisers noting that many women in rural and underserved communities continue to face significant health challenges due to limited access to medical services and health information.

MLF said the intervention was informed by the growing prevalence of conditions such as hypertension, hormonal imbalances, hyperglycaemia and malaria among women of reproductive age. The foundation noted that delayed diagnosis and inadequate healthcare access often expose women to preventable complications that negatively affect their quality of life and economic productivity.

Beneficiaries received health education on disease prevention, reproductive health, healthy living practices and the importance of regular medical check-ups. Counsellors also provided psychosocial support aimed at helping women make informed decisions regarding their health and wellbeing.

The foundation described the outreach as part of its broader commitment to empowering women and improving community health outcomes through sustainable and inclusive interventions.

By bringing healthcare services directly to the community, MLF said it hopes to reduce health inequalities, encourage early treatment-seeking behaviour and strengthen the overall resilience of women and families in vulnerable populations.

Community members expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly at a period when access to affordable healthcare remains a challenge for many households.

The Martins Lydia Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to advancing equitable healthcare delivery and creating lasting social impact through programmes that address the needs of women, children and underserved communities across Oyo State and beyond.
