Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resource, Kwanta Yakubu, accompanied by Permanent Secretary, Rosha Garba Muhammad, directors, and staff members, yesterday, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the Kenyang and Owenu mining sites.
The commissioner said the visit was to strengthen the state’s mining sector and ensure its improved performance.
Daily Sun gathered that the ministry had received complaints from various stakeholders regarding Kenyang Company’s intention to expand its mining area. This prompted the visit, aimed at guaranteeing the preservation of existing peace for sustainable development.
Kwanta emphasised the investor-friendly approach of Governor Abdullahi Sule and the importance of considering the interests of all parties, including future generations, when conducting business.
He called for understanding and collaboration among stakeholders.
Kwanta commended Governor Sule for creating an enabling environment for mining activities, particularly in terms of security, and urged continued support for government.
Before going to the mining sites, the team visited the Osu Ajiri’s Palace, where the traditional ruler, represented by Sarkin Fada Aminu Obagu, commended the government for its intervention and pledged to work towards sustaining peace in the area. Youth Leader, Ismail Dan-Ajiya of Udege Mbeki also echoed the traditional ruler’s stance.
At the Kenyang mining site, Miller Xu, manager of the mining company, expressed their commitment to achieving an amicable resolution in all grey areas for the sake of sustainable peace. He also extended gratitude to the Nasarawa State government for meeting their expectations.
