The Yoruba Leaders of Thought (YLT) has commended both the labour unions, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Federal Government for their cautious and patriotic approach to the minimum wage negotiation.
The group, under the leadership of Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, expressed satisfaction with the consideration shown for the general interest of Nigerians during the negotiations.
In a statement by its General Secretary, Mr Bayo Aina, the YLT commended the negotiating teams for their “high level of patriotism, sense of responsibility and acute awareness of the possible impact of a hasty deal on the welfare of the larger majority who may not benefit directly from the new minimum wage.”
While commending the negotiations, the YLT also urged the teams to ensure fairness in their deliberations, considering the impact on all stakeholders.
“We appeal to all parties on the negotiating table to consider the fate of the many millions of stakeholders who will not benefit directly but who may have to live under the burden of the outcome of their negotiations,” the statement said.
