Military gather in Borno as Gen. Braimah, others are buried

Service Chiefs and other senior military officers thronged the Maimalari Cantonment in Borno for the burial of the Brigade Commander of the 29 Taskforce Brigade of Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General Omo Braimah and other military officers and soldiers killed by the Boko Haram terrorist group that invaded the brigade a week ago.

In a solemn and emotion-laden ceremony, the military led by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede and Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu paid their last respect to late Brigadier General Braimah, Captain Ismail and other gallant soldiers, who died while fighting to defend Nigeria from being seized by the terrorists.

The burial, Daily Sun reports, was held at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery and  was marked by deep sorrow, honour and reflection, as family members of the fallen military personnel, colleagues and top government officials gathered to pay their last respects.

The fallen officers and soldiers were accorded full military honours by the Nigerian Army in recognition of their sacrifice and unwavering commitment to national security.

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, who had earlier commiserated with families of the fallen officers and soldiers and 29 Task Force Brigade for the tragedy that befell them, was also in attendance during the burial.

In separate tributes, the dignitaries described the deceased as true patriots, who demonstrated courage and dedication in the face of danger, noting that their sacrifices would remain indelible in the nation’s history.

They emphasised that the fallen soldiers paid the ultimate price to ensure the safety and stability of Nigeria, adding that their legacy would continue to inspire both serving personnel and future generations.

During the ceremony, prayers were offered for the repose of the departed, while detailed citations of their service records were read in the presence of their grieving families.

The emotional atmosphere highlighted the human cost of the country’s ongoing security challenges, even as the bravery of the fallen soldiers drew admiration and respect from all present.

As the nation mourns, the ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made daily by members of the armed forces, who continue to place duty above self in defence of the country’s peace, unity and territorial integrity.
