Man in the dock for alleged theft of iron rods

A 27-year-old man, Raji Sunday, who allegedly stole N120,000 worth of iron rods, on Thursday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti.

Sunday, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and committing acts likely causing a breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Inspector Moyosola Adesola, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 31 at 10.00 a.m. at Ajebamidele area of Ado-Ekiti.

Adesola said that the defendant stole 12mm, 10mm iron rods, and some biding wires valued at N120, 000 belonging to the complainant, Mr Towoju Adesola.

She said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace when he stole the iron rods.

Adesola said that the offences contravened Section 302 and 181(1) (d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourned the case to enable her to study the case file and assemble her witnesses.

However, the defence counsel, Mrs. Joy Raphael urged the court to grant her client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

Ruling on bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Bankole Oluwasanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety in like sum.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that she adjourned the case until October 3 for mention.
