Former Watford striker, Troy Deeney has predicted Manchester City could go on to win the next five English Premier League titles unless Arsenal checkmate them this season.
The football pundit stated this in a Friday article for The Sun UK.
Arsenal and City teams face off at the Etihad on Sunday in what could be the 2025/2026 EPL title decider.
A loss for Arsenal leaves Mikel Arteta’s side just three points above resurgent City, who have a game in hand against Crystal Palace, and blows the title race wide open.
Deeney praised City manager, Pep Guardiola’s genius, saying his rebuilding works over the last 18 months have turned The Citizens into real title contenders despite doubts at the beginning of the season.
“So many people had written Guardiola off earlier in the season but, to me, it’s simple. ‘Once a genius, always a genius’ — and he has shown that in recent weeks,” he said.
The 37-year-old stated that “another period of domination” could be ahead for City, especially if they overcome Arsenal on Sunday.
According to him, Arteta’s side “have tensed up” and may decide to settle for a draw from the encounter due to pressure, which could backfire.
“All the while, City — because of all the titles they’ve won — are totally comfortable with this whole thing. They just want to do it all again and again,” Deeney observed.
