Man arrested over plot to attack Benue communities

The Benue State Police Command said it has arrested a suspected bandit, one Ephraim Iortser, for liaising with criminal herdsmen and facilitating their attack on a village in Anyiin Logo Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Wale Abass, made the disclosure in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Catherine Anene, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi, yesterday.

Abass explained that the suspect was seen along Taraba-Benue border wandering around in a suspicious manner before someone approached him.

The statement reads: “On 22/04/2023, at about 1230hrs, one Ephraim Ternenge Iortser of Logo Local Government Area was seen along Taraba-Benue border wandering in a suspicious manner.

“During investigation, the suspect confessed to have gone to the forest to liaise with criminal herders to pay him, so that he can facilitate an attack on a village in Anyiin.

The CP said further investigation was ongoing to reveal more information about the suspect’s involvement in recent attacks and possible arrest of other suspects involved in carrying out such heinous crimes.
