An 80-year-old -man, Isiaka Ayinde, has committed suicide by hanging at Imota, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

His landlord’s children discovered his dangling body, and raised the alarm that attracted their father and other neighbours.

A senior police officer, who said that the man did not drop a suicide note, attributed the cause of the unnatural death to frustration, adding that many people would not be able to bear the economic hardship in the country.

According to the senior officer, the deceased landlord, Mustapha, reported at the Station that at about 7:30 am on Thursday that, at his house on Watchtower Street, Araromi area of Imota, his children raised the alarm that they saw the body of the old man dangling in a rope. They told me that one of my tenants, Isiaka Ayinde, 80, was hanging on a rope that was tied to the burglary roof of one of the windows in the kitchen.”

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the scene of the incident has been visited by DCB personnel of Imota Police Division and photographs were taken by the police.

The PPRO said the body of the man was not deposited in the mortuary since his family was not interested in depositing it there, but wanted his burial as a result of his age and religious inclination.
