Popular Edo entertainer and public figure, Maleke Idowu, has called on Edo indigenes in Austria and across the diaspora to reject negative narratives, misinformation and unverified reports circulating on social media, urging them to look beyond online propaganda and gain a firsthand understanding of the developments taking place in Edo State.
Speaking during a live stage appearance in Austria, Maleke appealed to Edo people abroad not to allow social media narratives, hearsay or one-sided accounts to shape their perception of the state.
He urged them to return home, see things for themselves and form their opinions based on facts and firsthand experience.
The entertainer further challenged Edo indigenes in the diaspora to channel their resources, expertise, networks and influence toward the development of their homeland.
He stressed that their connection to Edo should go beyond criticism and online commentary to meaningful investment, collaboration and active participation in the state’s future.
According to Maleke, the most effective way for Edo people abroad to understand the realities on the ground is to come home, reconnect with their roots, assess developments firsthand and contribute positively to the growth and prosperity of the state.
He urged the diaspora community to see Edo not merely as a place of origin, but as a shared responsibility and an investment in the future of generations to come.
Maleke particularly encouraged Edo people abroad to bring home their businesses, investments, ideas, professional skills and experiences, stressing that the development of Edo requires the collective efforts of both those at home and those in the diaspora.
While acknowledging that there are still challenges that require attention, he called for honesty and constructive engagement in addressing them.
According to him, Edo people should be willing to speak up when things are wrong, support efforts that promote progress and peace, and avoid allowing negative stories to become the sole definition of the state.
“Let’s face reality. Let’s leave propaganda. Come and see for yourself. Let’s make Edo State work,” Maleke said.
