The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has confirmed that tensions between Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, have been amicably resolved.

The council declared that external actors, who attempted to escalate the matter have been defeated.

The CCII also dismissed fears of political or traditional instability, stressing that no impeachment plot against the governor and no move to remove the Olubadan from the throne ever existed.

The position was contained in a statement issued yesterday by CCII Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, following public concerns over perceived friction between the two prominent Ibadan leaders.

According to CCII President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, the disagreement was resolved internally through Ibadan’s established traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms, with elders and key stakeholders swiftly stepping in to prevent escalation.

Ajewole said the intervention reflected the strength of Ibadan’s leadership structure, adding that the situation never reached a level that warranted external interference.

“The issues between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan have been resolved amicably, and the external forces that attempted to create a crisis around the situation have been defeated,” he said.

He emphasised that the relationship between the governor and the monarch remains cordial and rooted in mutual respect, describing it as a father-and-son bond.

“If there is any disagreement between the governor and the Olubadan, it will always be settled internally,” he added.

The CCII leadership warned individuals and groups allegedly attempting to stoke tensions to desist, insisting that Ibadan possesses the institutional wisdom to manage its internal affairs without outside interference.

Ajewole urged residents across Ibadan and Oyo State to remain calm and continue supporting peace and development efforts. He noted that the swift resolution underscored the maturity of the city’s traditional and political systems.

He also commended Governor Makinde for what he described as significant developmental strides, including infrastructural expansion, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, job creation initiatives, and improved security in the state.

In the same vein, the CCII lauded the leadership of the Olubadan, saying: “We also appreciate the Olubadan for his commitment to the growth and development of Ibadan, particularly through innovative committees including economic and anti–land-grabbing committees and his efforts at ensuring Ibadan becomes an economic powerhouse in Nigeria and West Africa.”

The council reaffirmed its commitment to preserving unity among Ibadan’s leadership, stressing that safeguarding harmony remains central to the city’s stability and continued progress.
