Police authorities in Borno State have confirmed that normalcy has been restored in Maiduguri following the deadly bombings that injured over 100 people.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Kenneth Daso, spokesperson for the Borno Police Command, said, “Well, as of now, I would say in Borno State, normalcy has been restored. Joint security forces are currently undergoing security operations, and investigations are ongoing as the police are still probing the scene of the incidents.”

The coordinated attacks, believed to have been carried out by suspected suicide bombers, struck a busy market, the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and a nearby post office on Monday evening. Initial reports put the death toll at 23, with more than 100 injured. Witnesses recalled scenes of panic as people fled from the first explosion, only to be caught in a second blast minutes later.

In response, President Bola Tinubu directed national security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to manage the situation. In a statement, he said, “I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear.”

Governors across the country have condemned the attacks, describing them as a “reckless waste of human lives.” Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, leader of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, added, “Our condolences and sympathies are with the people and government of Borno State on this sad development. We will work with the Federal Government to totally defeat terrorists in any part of the country.”

Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu visited the victims at UMTH on Tuesday, March 17, conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the blast sites. He reassured residents of the police’s determination to dismantle all networks behind the attacks and prevent recurrence.

Security operatives continue to comb Maiduguri for suspects as investigations proceed, while relief efforts and emergency response measures remain ongoing to support victims and restore full normalcy in the city.
