Senator representing Imo East Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Majority Leader at the Senate, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, announced Onyewuchi’s defection at plenary on Tuesday.

Onyewuchi defected to the ruling party in the presence of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma who was present at the Senate after he was granted entry in line with the Senate rules.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read Onyewuchi’s letter of defection which he addressed to the APC.

In his letter, Onyewuchi said that he has resigned from the Labour Party, citing the unsolvable crisis in his former party. He also said that his defection is in line with the constitution.

He also noted that his defection was to contribute to the development initiatives of President Tinubu.

Shortly after Onyewuchi was ushered to take his seat at the Majority party section of the Senate Chambers, he was also welcomed by APC lawmakers.

The implication of the lawmaker’s defection is that all three Senators representing Imo are now members of the APC, to which the governor also belong.

The other Senators are Osita Izunaso (Imo West) and Patrick Ndubueze (Imo North).
