Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its senatorial candidate, Joshua Mamah, has called on former members, who left the party to return from their political wilderness.
He expressed regret that many of his contemporaries left the party due to a lack of confidence and trust in its ability to survive the grip of power mongers.
He described the situation of such political wanderers as pitiable, remarking that many failed to realise the core manifesto of the Labour Party and chose instead to chase power.
“The reason we have remained in the Labour Party is that we did not just become members to grab power or become rich overnight.
“And you and I know, that was the intention of those running from pillar to post in search of opportunities through the back door. That is why they have lost our trust totally.
“I advised them not to chase shadows, but it fell on deaf ears. They left when the journey was tough, thinking the party would never emerge from its troubled waters. But here we are. This shows that every political party will have its share of internal issues,” he stated.

Meanwhile, he noted that the party would welcome back thousands of defectors, adding that they should make their way back because the LP remains the mother of all political parties in Nigeria.
He also reminded party officials and politicians to remain professional and loyal to their platforms to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the nation.
“I am a founding member of the LP in the FCT, and I have remained since its inception because I wanted to contribute meaningfully.
“Conversely, many people jumped ship at the slightest provocation. Today, they regret it because they have not built a political party. Those who built the parties they ran to have shut the doors behind them, leaving them confused.
“They ran to the APC and found no road. They ran to the PDP and met a more troubled house. They ran to the ADC, and they are no longer sure. Every other party seems to have a unique experience of internal squabbles, except the Labour Party at the moment” he added.
Commenting on his 2027 FCT senatorial bid, Mamah posited that his vast experience in the FCT gives him an advantage over other contenders.
“As an indigene, my experience of the FCT is as old as the territory itself. When I look at where I was brought up, I see no government infrastructure development, despite the opportunities given to some people. It is time to challenge these anomalies,” he stated.
