In an effort to boost grassroots football and foster unity within local communities, two major football competitions will take place in Lagos State later this month, showcasing both youth talent and community engagement.

The Ikorodu/West Local Development Council (LCDA) is gearing up for the Ikpakojo Allstars Annual Football Fiesta S.K.O Cup 2024, which will take place on December 29, 2024, at the Local Government Primary School in Ipakodo, Ikorodu. The event, which kicks off at 11:00 AM, is expected to feature three teams: Team Baresi, Team Refe, and Team Iniesta. These team names, inspired by football legends from across Europe, highlight the tournament’s focus on celebrating the global football culture.

Speaking on the upcoming competition, Honourable Suliamon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Chairman of Ikorodu/West LCDA, expressed his commitment to using football as a tool to unite the youth within the local community. He emphasised that the competition is not only about sports but also about identifying emerging talent and providing opportunities for players to progress into professional football, both locally and internationally.

Meanwhile, in the Kosofe Local Government Area, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, the Executive Chairman of the local council, has announced the 2nd Edition of the Chairman’s Cup. This year’s tournament, which will feature all wards under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is set to kick off on December 21, 2024, at Emmanuel Primary School in Ojota, Lagos.

According to Hon. Babunmi Ayoola (Ositelu), Special Adviser on Sports to the Kosofe Local Government, the competition aims to promote unity among the community’s residents, regardless of political affiliation, tribe, or religion. The event will culminate in a grand finale, with the winning team receiving a gold-plated trophy and prize money.
