From Sola Ojo, Abuja
Former presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, has described the coincidence of the Christian season of Lent and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan starting on the same day as a rare spiritual convergence and a season of hope for Nigeria.
Obi, on his verified ‘X’ handle yesterday, said the simultaneous commencement of the two sacred periods was a powerful symbol of shared sacrifice, reflection and the possibility of national renewal.
He noted that both Lent and Ramadan are marked by fasting, prayer and thanksgiving, describing the coincidence as a “double fast” and a divine invitation for Nigerians to transcend religious differences and rediscover their shared humanity.
According to him, the development presents an opportunity for intensified prayers for the country, particularly against insecurity and economic hardship.

Obi, however, stressed that prayer alone was not sufficient, urging Nigerians to complement spiritual reflection with concrete actions, including charity to the vulnerable, forgiveness and self-discipline.
He said the period should serve as a necessary spiritual reset for the nation, adding that the shared season of fasting could foster unity, compassion and collective responsibility.
Obi expressed hope that the rare alignment of the two religious observances would usher in lasting peace and unity across Nigeria.
He also called on Nigerians of both faiths to use the period to seek divine mercy for the healing of the country and to renew their commitment to building a better nation.
