Legacy commences work on railway research centre

Management of Legacy 1995 has said that preliminary work on development of a railway research centre inside the railway compound at Ebute-Metta, Lagos has commenced after receiving grants from Heritage Management Organization and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in support of the project.

Making this known in a statement made available to DAILY SUN, President Legacy 1995, Taiye Olaniyi said that integrity test of the structure donated by Management of Corporation (Ilukwe House) to enhance restoration of railway heritage has started.

Olaniyi explained further that as part of the process a team of stakeholders, including Legacy 1995 and experts, visited “Ilukwe House” to evaluate its structural integrity, including the roof and second floor.

According to him, the project aims to restore a historic staff home within the Nigerian Railway Community to serve as a research centre promoting Nigeria’s heritage architectural treasures and cultural awareness.

He disclosed that necessary documents are being obtained from Railway Property Management Company Limited to facilitate restoration process.
