A member of the House of Representatives, representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, Olanrewaju Moshood Oshun, has called on residents of his constituency to take ownership of government infrastructure and treat them as personal property in order to curb vandalism.
Oshun made the appeal at a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting held yesterday ,within the constituency, where he presented a comprehensive scorecard highlighting his legislative achievements, constituency development projects, and community outreach efforts over the past two years.
The meeting drew diverse groups, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth representatives, artisans, and market leaders, many of them praised the lawmaker for his consistent engagement and dedication to the needs of the community.
Raising the alarm over vandalisation of government property, the lawmaker, expressed concern over the growing rate affecting key government projects such as solar-powered street lights and boreholes, emphasizing that such acts undermine development efforts in the area.
The lawmaker urged community members to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding public infrastructure, noting that these projects are meant to improve the quality of life for all residents.
“These facilities belong to all of us. When they are damaged or stolen, it is the entire community that suffers, so when you see something , please don’t just say something but shout in order to to protect our common assets ” he said.
Oshun reaffirmed his commitment to continued development in Lagos Mainland and pledged to sustain engagement with constituents to address their needs and priorities.
Speaking state of Nigeria’s economy, he urged state and local governments to align with President Bola Tinubu’s developmental agenda, emphasizing that the removal of fuel subsidies had led to increased allocations for sub national governments.
Oshun argued that the policy shift, while challenging at first, was essential for laying the groundwork for a stronger and more stable Nigerian economy.
“What the president is doing is rebuilding our economy from the foundation. We’re already seeing early results with slight reductions in the cost of goods. It’s a tough but necessary process, am calling on all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, to support the president’s reform efforts”, he said.
A traditional ruler in the constituency, Oba Owolabi Adeyemi Adeniyi of Igbobi-Sabe, applauded Oshun’s efforts and described him as a responsive and responsible representative. Similarly, former chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omiyale Kayode, praised the lawmaker for consistently engaging with the electorate and providing transparent updates on his performance.
