Red Line
The Lagos State government has been advised to ensure that the rail tracks along the Oyingbo,-Agbado (Red Line) railway corridor are properly barricaded before commencement of commercial train service in order to avert accidents.
Making this known in an interview with our correspondent, a retired railway officer, Jonathan Ikhafia, pointed out that pedestrians still encroach on the rail tracks because they have access to cross the railway line through some areas that were not barricaded.
He said that the “NRC operates four trains from Ijoko/Kajola to Iddo, two in the morning and two in the evening,” adding that by the time Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority starts operation, the frequency of trains on the Oyingbo-Agbado corridor will surely increase.
According to him, there are gaps left at regular intervals along the existing perimeter fence, which should be closed so as to restrict access to the rail tracks.
Ikhafia also stressed that the state government, in collaboration with NRC, should enforce use of pedestrian bridges built along the Oyingbo-Agbado railway corridor so as to avert mishaps.
