A terrorist group suspected to be the Lakurawa group stormed a farm near Natsini village along the Argungu/Kangiwa road, Kebbi State, where they rustled cattle and killed two police officers during a gunfight.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

According to him, “On 3rd January 2025, at about 0100 hrs, armed hoodlums suspected to be Lakurawa bandits on motorcycles invaded Alhaji Lawal Black’s farm and nearby Fulani settlements located at Natsini village, along the Argungu/Kangiwa road, and rustled an unspecified number of cows.

“On receipt of the report, a team of Police Safer Highway patrol officers immediately rushed to the scene, engaged the bandits in a gun duel, and pursued them, forcing the bandits to escape into the forest with gunshot wounds. Some of the rustled cows were successfully recovered. Regrettably, two police officers lost their lives during the encounter.

“In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, condemned the unfortunate incident, prayed for the souls of the deceased police officers to rest in peace, and wished their immediate families and well-wishers the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“The CP also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene, after which he visited the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Dr. Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, CON, to offer condolences and brief him on the efforts of combined security agencies towards combating crimes in the area.”
