The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a major road accident involving a 40-foot containerised truck that crushed a commercial minibus and injured a female Point of Sale (POS) operator at Second Rainbow inward Oshodi area of Lagos.

The accident occurred along the service lane adjoining the Police Tactical Team Station after the heavily laden articulated truck reportedly lost control while in motion.

According to preliminary investigations, the truck veered off its lane before overturning onto a commercial shuttle bus and nearby roadside shops, causing panic and extensive damage in the area.

A female POS operator working under a canopy near the scene sustained severe injuries to both legs during the incident. She was immediately rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention by officers of the Police Tactical Team stationed in the area.

Officials of LASTMA swiftly arrived at the scene to manage traffic, secure the corridor and coordinate rescue and recovery operations alongside security agencies and other emergency responders.

The driver of the articulated truck was apprehended by LASTMA officials and later handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.

To restore normal traffic flow, recovery vehicles were deployed to evacuate the overturned truck and the damaged minibus, while officers from the Orile-Iganmu Division of the police commenced documentation and investigation into the cause of the crash.

Despite the scale of the accident and the damage recorded, vehicular movement around the area remained largely uninterrupted due to the prompt intervention of traffic officials.

Speaking on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged operators of articulated vehicles and logistics companies to ensure regular mechanical checks on heavy-duty trucks, particularly braking systems and other critical safety components.

He warned that poor vehicle maintenance remains a major threat to public safety and infrastructure across Lagos State and called on transport operators to strictly comply with safety regulations and operational standards.
