A tourism and hospitality summit focused on Africa’s growth prospects is scheduled to hold in Lagos on May 15 and 16, 2026, bringing together policymakers, investors and industry stakeholders to examine strategies for expanding the continent’s share of global travel.
The event, known as the Africa Legacy Summit, is expected to convene government officials, business leaders, hospitality operators, young professionals and students from across Africa and the Caribbean.
Africa is widely regarded as an emerging destination in global tourism, given its natural attractions, cultural diversity and growing population. However, the continent continues to account for a relatively small proportion of international tourist arrivals, with stakeholders citing infrastructure deficits, visa restrictions and limited global visibility as key challenges.
Organisers say discussions at the summit will focus on practical approaches to improving investment flows, strengthening hospitality standards and enhancing connectivity between African destinations and international travel networks.

Tourism has increasingly been identified as a potential driver of economic diversification and job creation across African economies, particularly as countries seek alternatives to commodity dependence.
Kenya is often referenced as a case study within the sector, having built a strong international tourism profile through investment in conservation, workforce development and destination marketing.
Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, will host the summit. While not traditionally ranked among leading tourism cities, it has gained attention in recent years for its creative industries, including music, film, fashion and food, which continue to attract international interest.
The summit is also part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Eko Hotels & Suites, a major hospitality provider in the city.
Stakeholders say the outcome of the discussions could influence how African countries position their tourism sectors within the global market and address long-standing structural challenges.
