The 7th National Youth Games (NYG) to take centre stage from September 7 to 17 in Asaba, Delta State.
The State U15 boys and girls trials, which were conducted at the Yabatech Sports Complex, recorded numerous exciting performances by the young talents.
Trials have since become a veritable ground for harvesting the huge talents that abound in the state with over 22 million population.
Girls’ 100m was dominated by Godiva Iliodianya who is a high school student of the Babington High School in the United Kingdom She recorded a time of 13.1s(ht) for the victory. The young girl trains with Udo-Obong Athletics Academy, under the tutelage of coach Udo-Obong (Oly)
Mfonabsi Udo grabbed 2nd with 13.3s ahead of Adeniyi Adesolape in 3rd with 13.5s
In the boys’ category, Emmanuel Okechukwu posted a time of 11.00s (ht) for the win ahead of Okunlenu Eyitayo in 2nd with 11.3s, while Oladele Sulaimon got 3rd with 11.6s
Girls’ 400m was dominantly won by Mfonabasi in 65.8s (ht) ahead of Ikpe Joy in 2nd with 66.5s while the Boys’ category was won by Oladele Sulaimon in 54.5s (ht) ahead of Thomas Daniel in 59.4s. Efunkoya Mosimioluwa placed 3rd in 59.7s.
Girls’ 200m was taken by Ishola Omowunmi in 28.2s (ht) ahead of Udoh Mfonbasi in 2nd with 28.9s. Adeniyi Adesolape finished 3rd in 29.3s, while in the Boys’ category, Emmanuel Okechukwu sprinted to yet another win with a time of 23.4s (ht) ahead of Okunlenu Eyitayo in 2nd with 24.4s. Muhammed Alibaba in 3rd with 25.4s
Gospel Ologbon cruised to victory in the girls’ 800m with a time of 3:06.42s (ht) while the Boys’ category was won by Abdulraman Abdulsamal in 2:28.7 (ht)
Osho Feyikemi won girls’s shot put in 7.81m, while Joshua UdoUdoh threw a distance of 10.58m to win the Boys’ category.
Sade Aliyah won girls’ high jump with a leap of 4.04m, while in the Boys category – Jimoh Muhammed won with 5.36m.
In reaction to the performances @ the state trials, the technical director of Lagos state athletics, Enefiok Udo-Obong (Oly) said, “Lagos is going to Asaba to expose to the nation how youth development and focus is key to the future of our sport. We are going with kids we know are young and ambitious. This is in line with our blueprint. “
