A resident of Lagos has urged the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) to find a permanent solution to the issue of exorbitant bills given to him.

Mr David Sagua, resident of House 15, 2nd Avenue, NNPC Estate, Satellite Town, lamented what he described as crazy bills slammed on him between January and March this year.
Sagua said it brought the total estimated bill to his account number 03/45/03/1629-01 to N197, 234.24 by March 17, 2023.

Sagua, who bemoaned the delay in being provided with a prepaid meter, also called for a review of his bill before any plans to install the pre-paid meter.

According to him: “I am sending this to again to remind EKEDP about my earlier complain of the crazy bills slammed on me in February and March, which brought the total estimated bill to my account number 03/45/03/1629-01 to N197, 234.24 by 17/03/2023 from a little above N50,000.00.

“Therefore, I requested for the disconnection order which was served on me, but to my surprise the bill on the account is said to be over N210,000 at a time when l am contesting the earlier bill.

“I have been requesting that you send someone to my house to inspect it, l only have light bulbs and ceiling fans (no Air conditioner, no television, no refrigerator). I stay here Mondays to Thursdays and return home by Friday every week.

“I know l shouldn’t be paying up to N5,000 a month and l once again demand for a review of the bill before the installation of the pre-paid meter which I have paid for since July 2023.”

Sagua, who said he applied for a pre-paid meter in the third quarter of 2023, warned that “if all these issues are not sorted out before the end of the 10/12/2023, l will start a campaign against EKDP, not just in Vanguard but in other media houses as well as social media. I am posting this on all the social media platforms, starting now.

“Last year, the amount of the bill was N78,829 and there was a disconnection order on it. I didn’t reconnect but applied for pre-paid some in July – August, 2022.

“EKDP didn’t respond so I had to go to your office in FESTAC, where I was told l must reconnect first. I paid N25,000 and reconnection fee to bring the balance to N53,000+ in October, 2022 but the bill was reading September.

“In November, no bill was brought and l had to go to your office in Satellite Town where l was told to pay any amount and l paid N10,000 in December, 2022.”
