The Lagos State Government has summoned key players in the electricity sector to confront the state’s power supply crisis and chart a course towards uninterrupted electricity.
Regulators, distribution companies, resellers and suppliers are expected to converge on the 2026 Lagos Energy Summit, holding from November 10 to 12, to tackle the structural bottlenecks crippling supply across the metropolis.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, said the summit would go beyond talk to proffer workable solutions to the problems frustrating residents and businesses.
“The summit is designed to examine the structural problems in the electricity sector and develop practical solutions that will improve supply to Lagosians,” Ogunleye said.
Unlike previous editions dominated by policy speeches, this year’s summit will place specific industry challenges before experts for resolution, according to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ibilola Kasumu.
Kasumu said the goal is to establish a clear pathway to reliable, 24-hour electricity in Lagos, one that can serve as a model for other states.
Discussions at the summit, themed “Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future”, will cover sector reforms, energy efficiency, renewable energy, metering and alternative energy sources.
Ogunleye also revealed that Lagos is in talks with the Federal Government to clarify regulatory roles and strengthen the state’s control over its energy infrastructure.
Beyond the main sessions, the summit will showcase youth-led clean energy innovations, including projects and prototypes developed by secondary school students.
The intervention comes amid rising anger among residents over prolonged outages and poor supply, with protests recorded in parts of Lagos Island and other communities in recent days over the failure of distribution companies to deliver the 20-hour daily supply promised to Band A customers.
