Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club fights hunger in Lagos

Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club has executed a hunger relief project in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State, during which it donated 350 bags of rice to vulnerable families in the area.

The club also undertook a medical outreach in the area and checked the blood pressure and blood sugar levels of the residents. There were also medical services like basic health consultation, health education, and awareness talks.

President of Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, Lion James Daves, said the projects were executed in the Oworonshoki area after a needs assessment in the area showed that many families in the area after the demolition of their homes by the authorities.

He stated that the members thought it was wise to give the item to residents in order to reduce the incidence of hunger and lift up the people. Lion Daves stated that the item was given to the most vulnerable in the area and that it would help to reduce their pain.

He urged the residents not to lose and keep on believing, telling them that their future is bright.

Also speaking at the event, Lion Franklin Udah, the Service Chairperson of Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, said that the members of the club are humanitarian servants who give their “treasure, talent and time” to serve the needs of people in society.

Udah, who is the Charter President of the club, charged the residents and recipients to keep alive and continue to be good citizens of Nigeria. He stated that they should be their brother’s keeper, adding that the government cannot do everything for them.

In her comment at the event, District Governor Lions Clubs 404B2 Nigeria, Lion Oluwakemi Abimbola Eribake, disclosed that the event was organized to mark the Lions Clubs International Hunger Relief Week.

According to her, hunger relief is a core activity of the club all over the world, adding that Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club is taking the lead in distributing food items to the needy and vulnerable in society and praised the club for its effort.

Lion Eribake urged residents to always check their health status, adding that this will prevent them from developing diseases.

She called on members of the Oworonshoki community to join the Lions Clubs because, according to her, it is important to serve the needs of others in society.
