To deepen electricity market reforms and expand reliable power supply across the state, the Lagos state government has Issued 14 power generation and metering licences to private firms

The licences were presented by the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) during its maiden Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum held in Lagos.

LASREC used the forum to reinforce the state’s push to build a structured and fully regulated electricity market driven by private sector participation.

Speaking at the forum, the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of LASERC, Mrs. Temitope George, described the engagement as the beginning of a new regulatory era focused on developing a functional, efficient and consumer centred electricity market capable of supporting Lagos’ growing economy.

She said the commission remained committed to enabling investments, supporting innovation, safeguarding consumers and promoting clean energy solutions across the state.

The approved operators included: Axxela Limited, which secured approval for a 5.8 megawatt power project at Cadbury Nigeria Plc in Agidingbi.

Isolo Power Gen Limited also received approval for a 9MW power project along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Isolo, while Isolo Power Supply Limited obtained an Independent Electricity Distribution Network licence for the same axis.

In addition, Daybreak Power Solutions Limited secured multiple approvals covering facilities operated by Seven-Up Bottling Company in Oregun, Crown Flour Mill in Ikorodu, Nigerdock FZE on Snake Island, Nigerian Breweries in Iganmu, Nigerian Bottling Company in Ikeja, and Promasidor Nigeria Limited in Isolo.

The commission also approved New Hampshire Capital Limited as a meter asset provider, while GossLink Engineering Limited secured licences covering 330KV and below operations as well as 400V vendor and importation services.

Similarly, Enaro Energy Mini-Grid Limited received approval for interconnected mini-grid projects in Ishokan Phase 1 and Mercyland Phase 1 in Ayobo-Ipaja area of Lagos.

George noted that the reforms within the Lagos electricity ecosystem were creating fresh opportunities for infrastructure development, innovation and clean energy investments, stressing that sustainable growth in the sector would depend on strong collaboration among stakeholders.

She added that LASERC was also strengthening consumer protection measures through the establishment of zonal offices in Ikorodu, Amuwo Odofin/Badagry and Sangotedo/Epe to improve complaint resolution and access to regulatory services.

The offices, she said, are expected to commence operations in the third quarter of the year.
