Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration commitment to supporting food entrepreneurs and strengthening the state’s food security system.

The governor gave the assurance at the 2025 Lagos Food Festival held at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, with the theme “Taste Without Borders.”

He said his administration remains focused on encouraging innovation and empowering individuals and groups across the food value chain.

Sanwo-Olu noted that in the last 11 months, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has implemented several interventions and empowerment programmes that have positively impacted agripreneurs and other stakeholders in the food sector.

According to him, the initiatives are aimed at positioning innovators and aggregators in the food business to become self-reliant and successful entrepreneurs, while also creating opportunities for young talents and transforming small businesses. The governor described the festival as a platform for families to experience diverse food cultures and cuisines, adding that food remains a powerful tool for telling the Lagos story and showcasing creativity, skills and cultural diversity.

He stressed that the government would continue to design programmes that uplift residents, promote skills development and sustain food security, noting that such efforts are critical to keeping Lagos safe and liveable for all.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms Abisola Olusanya, described the festival, now in its fifth edition, as a true reflection of Lagos’ rich culinary culture blended with entertainment.

Olusanya said the Lagos Food Festival has helped connect food actors, expand networks and provide opportunities for businesses to grow beyond the state and national borders.

She noted that Lagos’ multicultural nature is best expressed through food, adding that the ministry remains committed to celebrating and supporting stakeholders across the entire food value chain.

According to her, several food entrepreneurs have gained visibility and recognition through the festival, especially through interactions with the governor, which have helped boost confidence and business growth.

Some participants, particularly food vendors at the festival, commended the state government for its year-round interventions, describing them as instrumental to the growth and sustainability of food businesses in Lagos.
