A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, Adedeji Osinowo, has called on politicians and affluent Nigerians to prioritise humanitarian service.

Osinowo, who is the councillor representing Ward C at the legislative arm of the council, made this call during the 2024 annual end-of-year/Christmas party he organised for children and youths within his community.

Speaking at the event, Osinowo emphasised the importance of giving back to the community, highlighting that he grew up in Ikosi-Isheri.

“The idea of hosting the annual event began 15 years ago as a way of celebrating and engaging local youths. In recent years, the event has expanded to include children. We organised this party because the children are on holiday. We wanted to bring together all the children, whether from wealthy or less privileged backgrounds, to unite them as one,” he explained.

He added that the initiative is a way of giving back to the community that shaped him.

“I was born and raised here, and even as a politician, I continue to live among my people. I was once the youth leader of Ikosi-Isheri, and now I’m a councillor. Politicians should always remain close to their people and not move away once they are appointed to office,” Osinowo urged.

The event, which has grown over the years, also includes other activities such as a medical outreach for the elderly, scheduled for December 24, and a street carnival on December 30.

Sulaimon Salaudeen, a coordinator of the event, noted that the Sonaike Youth Association has been actively involved in the initiative to contribute positively to the community. Salaudeen also pointed out that the party, which started in 2018 with 200 children, saw over 500 children attend this year.

He said: “Considering the tough economic conditions, many parents struggle to afford Christmas treats, making the party an opportunity for children to experience the joys of the season.”

Salaudeen echoed Osinowo’s message, urging politicians to invest in their communities and make a lasting, positive impact on the youth.
