The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has officially declared Yakubu Lado-Danmarke as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made by the party’s returning officer, Nuraddeen Sani-Kankara, during the party’s gubernatorial primary election in Katsina.
Announcing the result before party delegates and stakeholders, Sani-Kankara said the exercise was conducted in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, the PDP constitution and the party’s electoral guidelines.
According to him, 77,085 delegates were accredited for the exercise, while 77,013 valid votes were recorded in favour of Senator Lado-Danmarke.
“Having conducted the governorship primary election of the party and after collation of results from the accredited delegates, I hereby announce that Lado-Danmarke scored 77,013 votes,” he declared.
Similarly, the Nasarawa State chapter of the PDP confirmed Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu as its candidate.
The endorsement was announced by member of the National Working Committee (NWC), Abdulmalik Danga, during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party officials and delegates drawn from the three senatorial zones yesterday.
The process was observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state attending in person to monitor the exercise.
The state PDP Chairman, Joel Gimba, said the endorsement reflected the collective decision of party members and leaders across the state, stressing that the party remained united ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the party was confident that Ombugadu remained the most credible candidate to lead the PDP into the governorship contest.
“We are united as a party and determined to reclaim Nasarawa State in 2027. The endorsement of Ombugadu is a reflection of the confidence the people and the party have in his leadership,” the chairman said.
Ombugadu thanked party executives, stakeholders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them of his commitment to the struggle ahead of the election.
He said the support shown by party members demonstrated that the PDP remained strong and connected to the people at the grassroots.
“I am still with the people and the people are still with me. Together, we will continue to work for the victory of our party in 2027,” Ombugadu stated.
He introduced his running mate, Yahaya Ohinoye, describing him as a dependable partner with capacity to contribute to the development of the state.
In Adamawa State, Chief Maurice Vunobolki emerged following the conclusion of the party’s primary exercise over the weekend.
INEC officials, who monitored the process, confirmed that the exercise was conducted in compliance with the party’s constitution and relevant electoral regulations.
Stakeholders and party delegates, who witnessed the primary described the exercise as transparent and orderly, noting that the conduct of the election would help minimise internal disputes and strengthen party unity ahead of the polls.
With his emergence, he is expected to lead the PDP’s campaign efforts across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State as the party begins consultations and mobilisation for the governorship race.
Party leaders said the PDP would focus on consolidating its support base, reconciling aggrieved members and presenting a united front in preparation for the 2027 contest.
Observers believe the outcome of the primary has now set the stage for heightened political activities in the state as parties position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
