Akwa Ibom state Police Commissioner CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has unveiled a youth engagement initiative tagged” One To Tell Ten” engagement initiatives aimed at multiplying positive security messages across communities.
The commissioner flagged off the programme to mark the 2026 International youth Day National Youth Leadership & Security Initiative at the Command Headquarters, Ikot Akana-Abia, Uyo
Addressing village youth presidents across the 31 local government areas in the state , the CP urged them to reached out by the initiative take the message to at least ten other youths and encouraged them to reject crime, political violence, cultism and drug abuse , embrace responsible use of social media, respect the rule of law and see the Police as partners in building safer communities.
“As we launched this ‘One To Tell Ten’ youth engagement programme, I urge every youth reached by this initiative to take the message to at least ten other youths
” I call on Nigeria youths to reject political thuggery, cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, electoral violence, vandalism and other forms of criminality, and embracing peace, responsible citizenship and positive nation-building.
“No political ambition is worth the life or future of any Nigerian youth . I therefore urge you to embrace the special national campaign, “My Future Is Greater Than Political Thuggery,” Azare stated.
He charged them to participate actively in democratic processes but reject violence, noting that politics should be a contest of ideas and service rather than a battlefield.
Azare appealed to political actors and community leaders to desist from exploiting youths as instruments of electoral violence.
“I call on political actors and community leaders to desist from exploiting the youths to achieve their selfish political gains”.he added.
The CP described the government as government infrastructure as collective assets and urged the youths not only to protect them but to promptly report acts of vandalism and other suspicious activities to the Police or appropriate security agencies rather than taking the law into their own hands.
On digital responsibility, the Commissioner reinforced the campaign message, “Think Before You Click, Verify Before You Share,” urging youths to guard against misinformation, cyberbullying, defamatory content, manipulated media and the misuse of artificial intelligence.
He warned that the power to communicate through social media must be accompanied by responsibility.
The Police Commissioner also commended the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Umo Eno, for his commitment to youth development and particularly for the initiative of integrating youth presidents and youth leadership structures into the security architecture of the State.
“The initiative strengthens community participation in security, as youth leaders are strategically positioned to support intelligence gathering, early warning, community engagements and crime prevention”.
