Jurgen Klopp has been tipped as frontrunner to take over as head coach of Germany’s national team following their shock early elimination in the 2026 World Cup.

Current manager, Julian Nagelsmann’s position is believed to be in major jeopardy after a Round of 32 defeat to Paraguay, and Klopp is reportedly open to the role.

Nagelsmann has not been dismissed by the German Football Association (DFB) and has indicated he would not resign but reports from Germany indicate his ouster is near.

According to Telegraph UK, one of Klopp’s remaining ambitions in football is to manage at a World Cup and the 59-year-old would relish the chance to lead Germany at the next finals in 2030.

However, personal circumstances could make any potential agreement with the DFB tricky as the former Liverpool manager is unlikely to want to spend every weekend watching Bundesliga and Premier League matches to assess players.

But the conditions favour the signing of Klopp, who is considered one of the world’s best managers, as Germany look to return to the zenith of world football.

The prospect of leading Die Mannschaft to Euro 2028 is said to be an attractive one for Klopp, who is currently Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull.
