No fewer than seven persons have been reportedly killed in two separate attacks on Ukembregya Tswarev communities in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

This is also coming at a time when over 15 persons were allegedly killed by suspected herders in Apete, Ijaha, Ochumekwu and Inyapu communities in Apa Local Government Atrea of the state.

A community leader in the area, Mr Joseph Anawah, told newsmen that the attacks were carried out by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen militia.

He said: “There has been attacks on communities of Ukembregya Tswarev since Tuesday and Wednesday.

“They came in droves on the evening of Tuesday and the attack lasted till 8pm and on Wednesday, they resumed again. They came purposely to attack our people and all of them were fully armed. It was carried out by militia herdsmen,” Anawah said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Logo LGA, Rev. Jonathan Adagbe, confirmed the attacks on phone to newsmen on Friday saying the attacks took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

He said:  “On Tuesday, two persons were killed while on Wednesday evening, five persons were killed in Yongia Ukambie Tiev, Ukembregya/Tswarev ward intimating that it was carried out by the herdsmen.

“Even when I went there, they were still grazing on the other side of the road, claiming that it is Taraba State. No one could just approach them.

“I reported the incident to the Special Adviser on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har, (PSP) Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy  Affairs, Dennis Akura, the DSS and Permanent Secretary on Bureau of Internal Services”
