British politician of Nigerian descent, Kemi Badenoch, has emerged as the most popular political party leader in the United Kingdom, according to a recent opinion poll by More in Common.

Badenoch, born in London and raised partly in Nigeria, currently leads the UK Conservative Party.

The survey showed her net approval rating improved from minus 32 before her party conference in October to minus nine in the latest results.

She ranked ahead of Nigel Farage, who polled minus 16, and Ed Davey, who scored minus 11. Keir Starmer came in last with a minus 42 rating, trailing behind other leaders, including Green Party’s Zack Polanski at minus 16.

The poll suggested that Badenoch’s rise in popularity may be linked to her growing visibility and recent political interventions.

“Whereas last summer we’d run whole focus groups where no one would know who Kemi was, she is often now brought up spontaneously, and even some of those who would never vote Tory say they admire her conviction and straightforwardness,” said Luke Tryl, UK Director of More in Common.

Despite her personal rating boost, the survey noted that the Conservative Party has yet to see a corresponding increase in overall support.

Badenoch’s growing recognition highlights the influence of personal credibility and public engagement on political leadership perception, particularly for leaders of minority backgrounds in the UK.

Observers say the results underscore how visibility and consistent messaging can shift public opinion, even when broader party performance remains steady.
