Kebbi State Government has promised automatic employment to corps members posted to its schools as teachers who performed and distinguished themselves during their service year.
Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Muhammad Nura Fingiler, stated this while declaring open a workshop organised by the corps members, tagged, “2023 corps employers workshop in Birnin Kebbi, with the theme, “Evolving strategies for promoting a healthy work life balance for corps members – the role of employer.”
Fingiler explained that Governor Nasir Idris has declared his administration’s readiness to retain corps members posted to the state owned schools.
According to him, “Governor Nasir Idris, as former teacher, is ready to retain corps members posted to schools. Those who distinguish themselves during the service year, would get automatic employment at the end of their service.”
Fingiler commended the state NYSC coordinator for the harmonious working relationship with the Kebbi State Government, and assured the corps members of adequate security of their lives and property throughout their service year.
He described the workshop as timely as it would go a long way in fostering a deep good working relationship between the corps members and their employers.
He noted that the welfare and rights of corps members must be protected at various places of primary assignments.
Earlier, Director General, National Youth Service Corps, represented by the Kebbi State Coordinator, Mrs. Okolo Agatha Banki, called on employers of corps members to stop shielding corps members deployed to their establishments from any form of crime.
She said the scheme would not hesitate to sanction those in the habit of covering their offences, while serving under them.
Banki condemned the act of covering absenteeism and abscondment by corps members posted for their primary assignment and shielded by their employers, stressing that corps members entrusted under them must be exposed when found to be engaged in illicit activities.
She urged employers to be honest and continue aiding corps members in the execution of community development projects beneficial to the host community.
