Kebbi police arrest 3 suspected gunrunners, recover weapons

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested three suspected gunrunners and recovered one AK 47, 737 rounds of 7.62×39 mm live ammunition in Bena and Dolekania towns.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command CSP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.

According to him, “on the 30th October, 2025, at about 0130hrs, the Divisional Police Officer, Bena, while on joint patrol with the Police Mobile personnel attached to No 36 PMF squadron, Birnin Kebbi, along Bena-Ribah road, reasonably suspected and arrested one Rabi’u Umar ‘m’ age 20yrs of Karen Bana village, Mariga LGA of Niger State, and Nasiru Hussaini ‘m’ age 26yrs of Doya village, Bauchi State.

When they were searched, one fabricated AK-47 rifle and five rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition were found in their possession.

In the same vein, on the 3rd November, 2025, at about 1230hrs, a team of policemen attached to the Divisional Police headquarters, Dolekaina, while on surveillance patrol at Bakin Mashaya area, Dolekaina, intercepted and apprehended one Lawwali Ibrahim ‘m’ of Anka town, Anka LGA of Zamfara State, in possession of Seven Hundred and Thirty Two (732) rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have smuggled the exhibits into Nigeria from Mokassa town, Benin Republic, with intention to deliver it to Anka town.

The two cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, for thorough investigation and diligent prosecution,” he said.

Abubakar added that the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, commended the DPOs Bena and Dolekaina, for their bravery, intelligence-driven policing and professionalism and reiterated the Command’s determination in its sustained efforts of fighting banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
