The Executive Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Kebbi State, Alhaji Mansur Shehu, has charged Directors and other principal officers at the local Government to be diligent and committed to their duty to ensure good governance.
Chief Press Secretary to Kebbi State Governor Ahmed Idris confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
Idris quoted the Chairman to have disclosed this at the opening ceremony of a 3-day workshop organised by the Commission on budget and budgetary control in the local government administration.
Shehu said the aim of the training was to provide effective budgeting and budgetary control to streamline financial process and restore sanity in the Local Government Administration.
The workshop was organised by the commission in collaboration with Millennium Consultant.
According to the statement, the Chairman described the workshop as way of bringing positive changes into the Local Government service.
He said: “The present administration as committed to good governance and the year 2023 is coming to an end, and remember, all government MDAs must produce their budget for the coming financial year, so the local government have to prepare and by so doing, training and retraining of those involved has become imperative.”
Shehu explained that the concept of budget was to define the objectives of government in financial terms and provide a yardstick to measure efficiency in various units of local government whereas the concept of budgetary control reveals the extent to which actual results have varied from defined objectives.
He implored all the participants to be attentive in all the sessions and ensure that they justify the resources invested on them by the government.
He then commended the Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris for supporting the commission for effective and efficient administration.
In his remark the Director in charge of the Millennium Consultant, Prof Musa Yelwa, was said to have applauded the Kebbi State Governor and the commission for organising what he described as a great workshop, describing it as the first of its kind in the state.
