Hundreds of eligible voters across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi State yesterday turned out en mass to cast their votes in the council election.
Sunday Sun observed that by 8am, electoral materials and ad hoc staff of the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) had arrived many polling units in Birnin Kebbi, Jega, Kalgo, Aliero and Argungu local government areas of the state visited.
At Badariya/Kola/Tarasa, Gulumbe wards, Birnin Kebbi and Argungu local governments, many women were seen on long queues waiting to cast their votes. The election was also held under tight security provided by the Nigeria Police and other security agencies.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at his polling unit in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, commended the people of the state for coming out en mass to vote for their chairmen and councillors and for conducting themselves peacefully. “Before I came, some people had come here to cast their votes and had gone back home. I want to commend them for their peaceful conduct during the poll,” the governor said.
Also speaking to Sunday Sun in Argungu town after casting his vote, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammed Argungu, commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct throughout the election.
“We are very glad that our people came out en mass to vote and conducted themselves peacefully. Despite the anxiety, we have recorded a peaceful election today (yesterday). We thank our people and security agencies for providing conducive environment for electorate,” Argungu said.
