Kebbi gov orders local chairmen, secretaries to hand over to DPMs as tenures expire

Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris has ordered all the elected chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state and their Secretaries to hand over affairs of the Councils to Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) at the expiration of their tenures.

The dissolution of the Council Chairmen followed the expiration of their tenure which ended on Monday, February 5th,2024.

Idris, while addressing the outgone Council Chairmen in Birnin Kebbi to thank them for their performances and contribution to the State development, directed them to handover the leadership of the various LGAs to Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) of their local government councils.

Governor Idris, told the former Chairmen that there were laws governing the local government administration and it had become necessary for government to respect the laws and acted accordingly.

According to him, “we need to do the needful so that later anything can follow. We did not intend to send anybody away, however, we will make sure that nobody is left behind.

“This is your government, therefore you need to support us to succeed, of course, there is the need for you to work assiduously to see that this government succeed,” he said.

In his reaction, the Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), in the state, Alhaji Aminu Sarkin-Fada,on behalf of his colleagues, appreciated the Governor for his support which according to him aided them to record successes.

He said: “I believe without the support of His Excellency, we wouldn’t have achieved what we have achieved,” he said.

Fada said that they are grateful for the distribution of fertilisers free-of-charge to farmers as well as cash disbursement to empower their people, stressed that the gesture have made many to stand on their feet, be self-reliant.
