The Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, has requested the Ministry of Defence to establish additional military formations in Zuru Emirate of Kebbi State to tackle persistent armed banditry in the area.

The Emir, who made this request during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), commended Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, for his efforts to address insecurity in the emirate.

Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Communication and Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru, confirmed the Emir’s visit in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.

According to him, the Emir explained that “his mission to the Minister was to, among other things, congratulate him on what he called ‘well-deserved’ appointment, acknowledge and appreciate the unmeasurable support General Christopher Musa has been giving to Governor Nasir Idris, since when he was the Chief of Defence Staff.

“ The Emir disclosed that, having studied the unfortunate security challenges after his assumption of office as the Emir, he concluded that there was the urgent need for establishing additional military formations and armed with modern sophisticated weapons with the capacity of bringing to an end the persistent security challenges.

“ The Emir highlighted Zuru Emirate’s potential for agriculture and solid minerals but noted that banditry has hindered development, thereby denying them the benefit of their God’s given natural resources.”

Abdullahi Idris Zuru, who is also Sadaukin Zuru Emirate, quoted the Emir as emphasising that the insecurity situation has equally subjected the communities to loss of lives and properties.

“ Emir Sanusi Sami Gomo III requested for the Federal Government’s sustained support for Governor Idris in his efforts towards tackling the security challenges,” he said.

In his remarks, the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, assured the Emir that his request would be considered, with the relentless support of Governor Nasir Idris, praising his concern for the people’s plight.

The royal father was accompanied by notable dignitaries, including former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ishaya Bamaiyi, Major-General Muhammadu Magoro, Galadiman Zuru, and Honourable Kabiru Ibrahim Tukura, representing Zuru, Sakaba, Fakai and Danko/Wasagu federal constituency in the National Assembly.

The Emir’s visit to Abuja, the federal capital, was also aimed at mobilisation for support of the Federal Government’s relevant agencies, corporate organisations, indigenous and foreign investors in agribusiness and the tourism industry for the forthcoming Uhola Annual International Cultural Festival, scheduled to hold between April and May 2026.

This year’s international festival will be hosted along with the coronation of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, appointed as the Emir of Zuru following the demise of Major-General Muhammadu Sani Sami Gomo II.
