The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, has disclosed that nine people died during the rescue operation for kidnapped victims in Oyo.
According to him, these included five security personnel and four civilians.
Ajayi explained that security operatives swung into action and began the pursuit of the kidnappers after receiving credible intelligence about the incident.
In a media interview published Thursday, he dismissed insinuations that the response was not swift enough and described the mission as a complex operation that required tact.

“What I’d tell you is that immediately the incident happened, based on credible intelligence, troops chased them immediately, and sadly, a vigilante and a policeman were killed.
“During the second raid, more were killed, making a total of nine (9) fatalities, four (4) civilians and five (5) security personnel. It was a complex operation involving a two-and-a-half-year-old infant who could not run much if we invaded the place,” Ajayi said.
The DSS DG decried the wave of disinformation that accompanied the incident and urged the media and public to verify information before sharing.
