The police in Kano have warned residents against engaging themselves in any form of protest, gathering or procession that could lead to the breakdown of law and order in the state.
The warning was sequel to information at their disposal that some party supporters were using unconventional means to mobilise residents to come out and protest against the Appeal Court’s judgement which nullified Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s election.
A dawn statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Monday, revealed that the intention of the party mobilisers was to shutdown the state by embarking in actions that may result in violence.
The statement, however, charged that whoever attempts to disrupt the peace of the state would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Whoever intends to conduct any protest or procession should do so in accordance with the provisions of the law” the statement held.
It assured that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to prevent the escalation of tensions that may lead to breakdown of law and order.
It said that the joint security forces have since been dispatched to strategic locations to safeguard peace and order throughout the state.
It reminded both NNPP and APC in the state of the peace accord they had signed on Thursday, 16th November 2023, while appealing to them to stand by that principle and ensure that the political landscape in Kano State remained peaceful, irrespective of the judgment’s outcome.
