Kano police raid criminal hideouts, arrest 149 thugs, others

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police have arrested a total of 149 suspects for alleged offences of thuggery and other related crimes in the state.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, said that while 106 suspects were picked for thuggery, 43 others were arrested for other major crimes.

The targeted operation which was led by the Commissioner also resulted in the recovery of arms, dangerous weapons,large quantitĂŠs of illicit drugs, motor vehicles and motorcycles.

The commissioner disclosed that in the last 10 days, they had also arrested 25 armed robbery suspects, three suspected kidnappers, three drug dealers, three suspected vehicle thieves and right suspected thieves in the last 10 days.

He explained that during the same time, they had recovered one pump action rifle, two motor vehicles, eight tricycles, and 12 motorcycles including 58 knives, cutlasses and pointed -rods.

Other items recovered included 87 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 944 pieces of red sun rubber solutions, 30 pieces of Diazepam injection as well as 26 sachets of Diazepam tablets.

He announced that the Command had also intensified patrols and deployed additional personnel to the affected areas, noting that they had increased collaboration with relevant stakeholders in the area, including community leaders, youth groups and other agencies, to gather intelligence and enhance response capabilities.
