Kano State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bukori has dismissed reports of a rift between himself and the Governor of Kano, Abba Kabiru Yusuf.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Bompai Police headquarters in the state, Monday, October 13, 2025, Bukori insisted that there was no misunderstanding between them or between the police institution and the government of Kano State.
To buttress his claims, he told reporters that he had just returned from a meeting at the Kano State Government House.
Daily Sun, however, reports that his denial ran contrary to the facts in the public space. The dispute between them climaxed days after October 1 with the eruption of sponsored demonstrations in the state capital against the CP.
On October 1, the governor had urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately withdraw the Commissioner for alleged professional misconduct.

He described the Commissioner’s conduct during the Independence Day parade in the state as a deliberate sabotage against the people of Kano and the Nigerian state.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf said the commissioner’s action was a clear demonstration of bias, insubordination, and betrayal of the Nigeria Police Force’s constitutional duty.
“As the Chief Security Officer of Kano State, we cannot tolerate sabotage to the peace, security, and wellbeing of our citizens,” he held.
“It is disgraceful that a Commissioner of Police would descend so low into partisan politics by boycotting a national event that symbolizes unity, patriotism, and democracy,” Yusuf stated.
The governor accused CP Bukori of consistently aligning with political interests opposed to the will of the people of Kano, thereby eroding public trust in the police command. He described the CP as a “political police officer” who has abandoned professionalism and is actively undermining democracy, he had remarked.
“The police must never be seen as tools of politicians. They are expected to protect all Nigerians, regardless of political leanings. Unfortunately, CP Bukori has turned himself into a willing instrument of division and insecurity in Kano State,” the statement added.
