One person has been killed while three others were injured after a middle-aged man, Rabiu Mukthar, opened fire at a wedding gathering in Kano.

The tragedy, confirmed by the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, occurred earlier in the week at Tudun-Yola Quarters in the metropolis.

Kiyawa disclosed that the prime suspect, alongside another person, had been arrested, adding that the pump-action gun used to shoot at the celebrants had been recovered.

He explained that:

“The man came out from his house while the music was booming at the marriage ceremony and opened fire on the people.”

According to the police, the suspect told investigators that the organisers of the musical wedding event did not consult him or his neighbours before holding the ceremony in their neighbourhood, adding that their loud music disturbed him while he was sleeping.

The shooting resulted in the death of one person, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken for medical attention, the police stated.

The police added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while assuring that all the suspects would be charged to court at the end of the investigation.
