The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the alleged harassment and unlawful arrest of its members by the Nigeria Police.
A statement signed on Tuesday by its state’s chairman, Usman Umar Fari, the Bsr Association recalled that, ” On 19th September, 2025, police officers from Abuja arrested Mohammad Bashir Adam, a lawyer, in the presence of his clients and other people while he was discharging his professional duties.
“Despite presenting two identification cards, one from the Nigerian Bar Association and another from his workplace, he was handcuffed and dragged into their vehicle. He was later released after being driven towards Abuja, with the officers admitting to a case of mistaken identity” the statement held.
“Furthermore, on 22 September, 2025, officers from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center arrested Uba Sani Hamza, a lawyer, at Norman’s Land Magistrate Court in Kano.

“He was detained and subsequently taken to Abuja, allegedly due to sharing a surname with a suspect accused of insulting government officials on social media and having contact with a client sought by the police” .
“We view these incidents as part of a disturbing pattern of human rights violations under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police”.
“We call on the Attorney General of the Federation to intervene and hold the Inspector General accountable. We demand the immediate release of Uba Sani Hamza and hold the federal government responsible for his safety and welfare. We will continue to advocate for the protection of lawyers’ rights and the rule of law” the statement.
